Membership

Back in February when I was using WordPress 1.5.2 all sorts of security holes started opening up to the point where I had to require membership for comments – I was getting all sorts of spam posts which drove me mad
With WordPress 2 and some plugins like akismet and spamkarma I’m pretty happy that I no longer need to require this anymore

Also, it’s been a little quiet here, particularly since MacHeadCase started her course. I know my friend Sham wants to comment without having to sign up. Plus, I think I’m losing out on a lot of readers who would otherwise comment but for the registration.

So, as of now you no longer need to register to comment on any of my posts
Of course all current members will retain their membership, and you can continue to use your username and password as normal and it’s always appreciated if you do decide to join
If however, things return to spam city I will have no hesitation in switching the members only option back on

    Cool! I can now de-register myself! 😉

I am proud to say I have now reached the speed of 27 words/minute. The exam is on December 1st and to pass it, I need a speed of 25 words/minute. Assuming I don’t fold under the pressure of having to perform well, I should make it good.

Sorry I haven’t been around much. I come home pretty much burnt out every night. Filling the brain with info tires you out solid. 🙄

Good luck for the exam MHC- you used to have a pretty speedy typing speed with your one finger method. In the long run I reckon with 8 fingers you will be typing at smoking speed. And don’t de-register yourself just yet, membership has it’s perks, and there’s still a chance I’ll go back to members only in the future. It all depends on the pros and cons

Welcome here Mr Das! Good to see you finally made it.
As you may have noticed, his blog is Gravatar Enabled. You might want to get yourself one if you haven’t already. It will follow your email address round any gravatar enabled site. All you have to do is register with them, upload your gravatar and it does all the rest.

Am going to try and make a bit of an effort this weekend on the site. I never really finished sorting everything out when I installed the new theme back in August

Uhm speaking of Gravatars, I think the system is having problems today. They don’t show up here and neither do they appear on my blog.

    i’m still on WP2.0.4
While it is easier going from a minor to another minor version, I can’t cope with the official way of updating it. If and when I do update, will do it the way I did last time.

Haven’t got as much done today as I planned, but if I stop getting distracted (like spending 2 hours on wikipedia) then I’ll get most of it done

And yes gravatars are a bit screwy today – and i think i need to get rid of the blank gravatar picture (or at least make it smaller) on my blog because it messes with the formatting [edit] fixed the size issue [/edit]

See how I am? I even have a link to download only the changed files in the latest WP update (which makes it less of a pain in the ass to update) but I still haven’t come around to doing anything yet. Oy! 🙄

In any case maybe you can make better use of that link than I for the time being. 🙂

Nice one – phpBB does those too
Only problem with phpBB is there aren’t one or two changes to a handful of files – more like one or two changes to every file in the /includes folder!
I’ve been putting off the last update to my board for about 6 months now because I just can’t face doing all the changes
Thanks for the link – if it doesn’t take too long will give it a bash in amongst everything else i’m doing
