Well, it’s been a week now since the UK drinking regulations have changed
A brief history of the regulations before can be found in Wikipedia’s information on the Defence of the Realm act and it’s page on UK licensing laws
What it boiled down to was that all normal drinking establishments (or pubs) were only allowed to remain open until 11pm Monday-Saturday and until 10:30pm on Sunday
This law did not affected night clubs which have always been able to open till later
Some pubs in the past paid for special licenses in order to open longer
As of last Thursday this all changed and most pubs are now allowed to open longer hours. In fact last Friday i was still down my local at 1:30am
So, how is it a week on since the new laws? For me personally, apart from last Friday i haven’t been down my local late, though it does appear that one place does seem to want to have more gigs, as on Saturday they had a Live Band playing covers.
Perhaps for a few weeks we’ll find people drinking silly hours, but overall it should be good in the long run, as the regulations came from the past for reasons that are no longer relevant and we’ll see the benefits of less restrictive laws.
Of course the newspapers made a huge thing about how there’ll be 24 hour drinking and nobody will be able to cope, but it doesn’t seem like that’s gonna happen now
Testing gravatars…

This is just a test with a long comment line to see if the gravatar affects things if placed on the right. If it does not affect it the text should wrap around the gravatar, otherwise it will shift the box to accommodate it
This is s very long comment line that never ends and it goes way over there and comes back and goes away again and wow! It just never stops! Make it stop! Someone, please! *Sniff*
Another try? I am a registered gravatar user. We are looking for the correct size and we hope that the gravatar code goes over the comment box code… 🙄
The plug-in does not properly resize the gravatars, it does not go fetch my gravatar which works in other places with no problems at all… What to do now?
Here’s another place where you can post your question: Gravatar forum. And there’s always the WordPress forum where you’ll get real coding help on this… The size problem AND the comment box having priority over the image…
And there’s the problem of the plug-in not seeming to communicate with gravatar.com to get my gravatar…
Saw this and thought it was interesting: Changing image from JPG to PNG and getting it approved. You might want to go into your profile over at my blog and check to see that it has the right email address you have registered your gravatar with. 🙂
MHC sugeested I try and help here – I’m no expert, but I’ll have a go …
As MHC said, it seems to not be fetching the image – I’m a registered on Gravatar.com, too, and it’s showing the “?” for me also.

I can’t remember where i got to with it so far and the more heads the better
I sent you another stylesheet to try out. I placed the code concerning the gravatars higher up right before the code for the comment box. I don’t know if this will change anything but it is worth a shot.
If this doesn’t work I would definitely post at the WordPress forums on this problem.
You could also try emailing the author of your theme. I just hope that you have better luck than Stretch had when he needed help from his theme’s creator for a problem. He never got a reply for making a plug-in work properly and had to never mind the implementation of this plug-in. 😕
Just remember to give as much details as you can, wherever you ask for help i.e. giving a link to your blog’s faulty page, the WordPress version and giving a link to the plug-in’s page.
Hey Stony, MHC told me you were trying to use Skippy’s gravatar plugin. I couldn’t get that to work with my theme either. Try the plugin from the gravatar website. You may have better luck with that one.
I did try the one on the gravatar website last week and had problems with that too – i think i’m getting somewhere with the layout but will definitely give the other plugin a go
I’ve done it now! decided to ditch skippy’s plugin and go for the original!
